Barnsley

Barnsley once historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, its current location places it near Sheffield, Manchester, Doncaster, Wakefield, and Leeds. Additionally, the larger towns of Rotherham and Huddersfield are in the surrounding area. Before it was given to the Pontefract Priory in the 1150s, the town was part of the parish of Silkstone and saw very little growth. Millhouse Green From an administrative point of view, the village is a civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley and Penistone. As such the village is in the Penistone West Ward of the Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council. The village lies on the edge of The Peak District National Park. It is surrounded by rolling pastures and high moors, and the river Don flows nearby. Even though it is a small village, it is lucky to have a village store, a primary school, and The Blacksmiths Arms, its local pub. This place only serves snacks, but it has real ales and the feel of a village pub. Oh! And it sells Bradfield Breweries “Belgian Blue” well worth a visit for those that enjoy real ale.
